Amid rising vegetable prices due to flood, call to start trade with India gained momentum in Pakistan

New Delhi: With most parts of Pakistan have affected by devastating floods across the country, calls opening trade routes with India are gaining momentum in Pakistan as prices of vegetables and fruits have touched the maximum.

The move to call for opening the route came after several business chambers have urged the government to import essential items like onion and tomato from neighbouring India for the sake of its own citizen. The Shehbaz Sharif government has yet to take a decision on the import of vegetables and fruits from India.

The suggestion to import edible goods from India was first floated by Finance Minister Miftah Ismail on Monday to contain soaring prices of the vegetables across the country. Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Atif Munir has requested the government to act swiftly to control the vegetable supply chain on Thursday.
