‘Brahmastra’ wracks up Rs 224 cr in first weekend amid boycott call

New Delhi: Amid boycott trend, Ayan Mukerji’s directed bollywood action fantasy ‘Brahmastra Part One: Shiva’ was one of the leading films at the global box office over the weekend, grossing a whopping Rs 224 crore.

The film released in India across 5,019 screens and debuted at No. 1 with a three-day weekend of Rs 125 crore. The film’s overseas screen count was 3,894.

The film was released in 810 theatres and debuted at No. 2 with $4.4 million (Rs 34.9 crore) In the US where the movie was distributed by Disney. The budget of the film is Rs 410 Cr and it needs to sustain its momentum to avoid loss.

The movie has opened to tepid reviews despite healthy advance bookings. Movie reviewer and analyst Taran Adarsh gave the Ranbir-Alia starrer a two-star rating, saying that the movie is a king-sized disappointment.
