EDMC Commissioner visits Ghazipur landfill site

Commissioner of East Delhi Municipal Corporation Gyanesh Bharti inspected Ghazipur landfill site and Waste to Energy plant. Senior officials were also present. Commissioner inspected the ongoing bio-mining work at the Ghazipur landfill site. 

During the visit, Commissioner was apprised regarding steps taken to control the incident of fire, monitoring mechanism, stepping up of bio-mining / bio-remediation of legacy waste presently from 4000 MT to 9000 MT per day by June end by replacing old lower capacity machines with high capacity trommel machines. 

Approx.10.25 lacs MT of legacy waste has already been processed till date, non-functioning of Waste to Energy Plant at Ghazipur and the steps being taken for stabilizing the slopes. It was also apprised that the department has prepared an Action Plan to clear the dumpsite by December, 2024. 

The Commissioner directed all the officers to strictly adhere to the Action Plan and directed the concessionaire M/s East Delhi Waste Processing Pvt. Ltd. to operationalize the Waste to Energy Plant at the earliest.

Apart from this Commissioner, Gyanesh Bharti reviewed the action plan of East Delhi Municipal Corporation for prevention and control of pollution in East Delhi. Also see existing dust mitigation measures including smog guns and water sprinkling.
