NIA court gives life term to Yasin Malik, Pakistan condemns the sentence.

After the separatist leaders of Jammu and Kashmir, Yasin malik awarded life sentence by a Delhi Court, Pakistani leaders including Prime Minister and Foreign Minister condemned the action, saying that Islamabad will continue to provide all possible support to the Kashmiris.

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said “India can imprison Yasin Malik physically but it can never imprison the idea of freedom he symbolises. “Today is a black day for Indian democracy & its justice system. India can imprison Yasin Malik physically but it can never imprison idea of freedom he symbolises. Life imprisonment for valiant freedom fighter will provide fresh impetus to Kashmiris’ right to self-determination.,” he tweeted.

Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also condemned the action. “Strongly condemn unjust sentencing of Hurriyat leader Yasin Malik in a sham trial. India can never silence Kashmiris’ voice for freedom and self-determination. Pakistan stands with Kashmiri brothers and sisters, will continue to provide all possible support in their just struggle,” he said in a tweet.

Earlier on Wednesday, the court said that the crimes were intended to strike at the “heart of the idea of India” and intended to forcefully secede J&K from Union of India.

The National Investigation Agency had demanded the maximum punishment, the death penalty, while the defence pleaded for life imprisonment.

Many areas of Srinagar witnessed a shutdown in anticipation of the verdict to avoid any unforeseen incidents. Shops and businesses reportedly were shut in parts of the city. However, the public transport and private vehicles were operating normally. A senior official said that security personnel have been deployed in the sensitive areas of Srinagar to avoid any law-and-order situation.
