NEW DELHI: In a historic feat, world champion Nikhat Zareen clinched the gold medal in the women’s 50kg light flyweight division at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham by winning the final round on Sunday.
The 26-year-old boxer who defeated Northern Ireland’s Carly McNaul, a silver medallist from Gold Coast 2018, by unanimous decision, said “It feels good to win another gold medal for my country.”
Meanwhile, Eldhose Paul and Abdulla Aboobacker won gold and silver medals respectively to secure a double podium finish for India in the men’s triple jump competition.

The Prime Minister also congratulated Eldhose Paul for clinching Gold Medal in Athletics Men’s Triple Jump at Birmingham CWG 2022. The Prime Minister tweeted; “Today’s Triple Jump event is historic. Our athletes have done excellently. Congratulations to the superbly talented Eldhose Paul who has won a Gold medal and backed up his good performance in previous international competitions.
