SC grants bail to Journalist S Kappan in Hathras case

New Delhi: Journalist Siddique Kappan, who was arrested in October 2020 in connection with the Hathras conspiracy case, granted bail by the Supreme Court on Friday. He was charged under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act.

He was also directed by the court to surrender his passport and report to the police station every Monday.

A bench led by Chief Justice Uday Umesh Lalit directed Kerala journalist Kappan to remain in Delhi for the next six weeks following his release from an Uttar Pradesh prison.

Earlier this week, the UP government had opposed the bail plea of Kappan alleging he is connected to organizations like ‘Popular Front of India’ (PFI) and its student wing Campus Front of India (CFI).
