Shrikant Tyagi, who assaulted Noida woman, arrested in UP’s Meerut

Tyagi was arrested from his aide's home at Shraddhapuri on the outskirts of Meerut. The politician was in touch with his wife and lawyer, a senior police official said.

NEW DELHI: Noida self-proclaimed politician Shrikant Tyagi, who was on the run for days after a video of him verbally assaulting a woman went viral, was arrested by Uttar Pradesh police from Meerut. 

Tyagi was arrested from his aide’s home at Shraddhapuri on the outskirts of Meerut. The politician was in touch with his wife and lawyer, a senior police official said.

 Noida administration on Monday razed illegal structure of self-styled politician Shrikant Tyagi accused of abusing and assaulting a woman.

Tyagi, who claimed that he is from the BJP’s Kisan Morcha – a claim refuted by the BJP is on the run after the video abusing a woman in the same society went viral.

A heavy police personnel deployed at the Grand Omaxe Society in Sector-93 B in Noida and demolished the illegal structure at the property of Shrikant Tyagi. Police have also reportedly detained Tyagi’s goons who tried to create a ruckus at the housing society following an incident. 

Following the series of incident, he Noida police has invoked the Gangster Act against Tyagi.

A spat broke out between Tyagi and a woman at the Grand Omaxe Society as the former wanted to plant some saplings but the woman objected to it citing a violation of rules. Tyagi, however started manhandling the woman and abused her.

Noida District Magistrate Suhas LY and Noida Police chief Alok Kumar Singh came to the Grand Omaxe residential complex and met with the residents. Noida MP and BJP leader Mahesh Sharma also visited the premises and questioned the police how supporters of Tyagi could enter a housing society and threaten residents.
