Residents of Delhi no longer have to keep a day aside for their Driving License tests as they can avail the facility to go for a driving license test after their office hours. In order to address the problems faced by such citizens, the Kejriwal Government has started a night shift facility at its Automatic Driving Test Tracks. The new initiative by the Delhi Government will enable office-goers to go for their DL test post their office hours.

Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot today inaugurated the Automated Driving Test Tracks set up for night tests at Shakurbasti, Mayur Vihar and Vishwas Nagar. The Kejriwal Government had started the trial of automated driving test track at the end of April, after which the Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot formally inaugurated it today.
Gahlot said “Delhi Government has always been responsive to the demands of the public and we firmly believe a successful trial period is necessary to provide the best service to our citizens. We had a successful pilot from the start of May and some very happy drivers who could save their valuable daytime working hours because of the evening test facility. We’ve already conducted 2500+ DL tests in the evening/ night shift since May 1st. We’ve constantly been monitoring the evening shift and making enhancements like intensity of lighting, camera resolutions etc to ensure maximum efficiency. The night testing facility is as good as a daytime one. We’re also adding 8 new ADTTs at educational institutions, which is in its tendering stage. This will be a major step in decreasing waiting times”.
The department has entrusted the Maruti Suzuki Foundation to set up 12 automatic driving test tracks. Along with this, the responsibility of the operator supervision of all 12 automatic driving test track centres has been given to Rosmerta Technology Limited. 17 cameras of high resolution have been installed, which capture real time footage and images, for the driving test to be closely monitored. In addition, an Electronic Queue Management System (EQMS) has also been installed for the tokens distribution and applicants will undergo the driving test in the same order in which their token has been generated. For this, six servers have been installed, which will thoroughly test the video and give the results of the test in a transparent manner.
Simultaneously, Sarathi will automatically upload the result on the software. Further, 10 CCTV cameras have been installed at all automatic test track centres to enable the driving test to be conducted in a transparent and effective manner. He also said that during the driving test, 20 essential driving skills under the Motor Vehicle Act, 1999 will be tested.
The night driving test will be held on the Automatic Driving Test track on slots between 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM. 45 appointments will be booked daily on each track. 3000 Appointment Schedule will be available per day after the commissioning of night shifts at all 12 Automatic Driving Test Tracks. Presently, 135 driving tests are being scheduled daily on these three automatic driving test tracks.
In the pilot that was conducted at the three centres between April 30 and May 24, encouraging results have come out. During the period, 2565 total slots were booked at the Automatic Driving Test Track at Shakurbasti, Mayur Vihar and Vishwas Nagar. As many as 855 slots amongst these were booked at the centre in Shakurbasti, 243 of these tests were conducted in the night shift. Out of this, 129 people passed the automatic driving test track and 126 people failed the test. Similarly, in Mayur Vihar, 855 people had booked their slots for the driving license.
Out of which, 424 people had appeared for the driving test. Out of this, 23 people passed the automatic driving test track and 192 people failed it. At the same time, 855 people booked their slots for the driving license test at Vishwas Nagar. Out of this, 266 people arrived for the driving test. Out of this, 149 people passed the automatic driving test track, while 117 people failed.
